I've been on a pretty intense journey studying nutrition and natural healing in the past few years. As I satisfied my hunger for learning about whole foods and nutrition related disease and healing, I naturally began delving into other natural healing resources. Along the way, I often ran into references to something called "energy healing," including reiki, chakra healing, spiritual healing, kinesiology, and the like. But it wasn't until recently that I took the opportunity to explore this type of spiritual-physical healing.
A good friend of mine has a sister-in-law who is an energy worker. She has a gift for sensing the spiritual energy in a person and helping them to process emotions and thoughts to bring greater balance between the spirit and the body. Limitless physical symptoms are often cured as a result of changing destructive patterns of thought and bringing in pure love and forgiveness.
Our bodies, minds and spirits are more connected than most of us realize.
Out of curiosity, and direction, I set up a phone appointment with
Lara, my friend's sister-in-law, and spent an hour with her looking at some thoughts and emotions which I could use a little re-shaping and releasing of. Her approach was very simple and straightforward and based on spiritual principles rather than psychological principles. And every tool she used, the basis for everything she said, had it's foundation in the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was an enlightening experience. I came away with some new ways to process and release old thoughts and experiences that no longer serve me, as well as the desire to learn more.
For the past few months I have been reading, praying and experimenting further with the powerful connection between our spirits and our bodies and the power of love and forgiveness to bring healing in all kinds of ways. I've recently begun experimenting with my children, as well. Because what could be better than experimenting with the power of love?!
This morning, Abby came downstairs complaining of a sore throat- "something like a ball in my throat," she said, before a few tears rolled down her cheeks. She also said she was very tired and felt sick.
Of course, like anyone, my first thought was:
"Strep Throat? Cold?"
I might've sent her back upstairs to lay down, but I said a little prayer for her inside, and my second thought was:
"Hmm...What could be going on inside her mind/spirit that might cause these symptoms?"
I ran to my room to look in a couple of reference books I've collected and read that a sore throat is often related to feeling unable to express the self; negative feelings unexpressed. One way to begin helping with this is to think the thought:
"I am free to be me!"
I returned to Abby and, knowing she would feel a little silly doing this, said: "Abby, I want you to say this to yourself:
"I am free to be me!" Say it over and over to yourself in your mind." I said this with a smile so that she would know that I realize how silly it sounds, and she went along with it.
The we had a nice long chat. I let her know that it was okay for her to tell me everything that's going on inside of her heart. That she could tell me everything she's worried about or sad about or afraid of. That I wanted to hear all of it. And she unloaded. One thing after another, beginning with a nightmare she had last night where we sent her to live with another family and abandoned her.(!!!) Then, some projects at school that she's behind on because she comes home in the afternoons. Then two girls she longs to be friends with who didn't invite her to their birthday parties last week. And finally, her heartbreak over leaving Virginia (That was when my own tears started rolling along with hers).
This little girl has had all of these sad, scary feelings bottled up inside, while putting on a happy face day in and day out. It would seem that it all came to a head with her troubling nightmare, and she woke up sick.
We talked and cried and hugged. I reassured her, calmed her worries and mourned right along with her. And a little over an hour later, we had a brand new Abby. No more tiredness, no more sickness, no more sore throat! I truly believe that she just had to let all of that icky stuff out that was caught in her throat- and fill it right back up with love.
Do you believe it? Have I piqued your curiosity?? If only I could go on and on, because I have more really fun stories to tell (would you like to hear my stories??) But, alas.. time to close for now.
I do have one thing to add though. On this journey of mine, which is all very interesting and fascinating and enlightening, I have never been more certain, and it has never been driven into me so deeply that the ultimate source of all healing power is in Jesus Christ. I know that any power I tap into as a result of the natural laws of health, or any power I discover within my spirit, comes from Him, and is never independent of Him. No matter what the method, no matter what the medium, it is His love that heals, according to His will.
Always.
