Back to Jackson

Each of us has places that hold a piece of us.  Or formed a piece of us.  Jackson Hole, Wyoming is one of those places for Creighton.  He lived there for awhile after college and before he met me.  It was a pivotal point in his life- ultimately re-routing him on a different path than the one he'd traveled for a decade.  I like to think God picked him up by the scruff of his neck and set him right down in one of his heavens- just so Creighton could think, and breathe, and see things as they really are.

Because that's what happened.

Jackson Hole is definitely one of God's heavens.   We've wanted to take the kids there for awhile- to get to know this part of their Dad.  This summer turned out to be the right time.

We stayed at The Alpenhof in Teton Village.

Creighton worked here as a bartender in the hotel restaurant all those years ago...

Coming back launched a wave of memories for him triggered by the sights and sounds and smells of the inn and bar.

They are fond memories for him; the kind usually framed by yellowed edges in a dusty album, calling out long forgotten names and faces and the echoes of untold tales.  Creighton told them with  a smile.

The Alpenhof sits in the center of  the Teton Village Resort.  It turned out there was plenty of fun to be had right outside our door.

We jumped...

(Let's just take another look at Abby's flaming, flying hair...)

And hiked...

And rode...

Then took the tram to the tippy tippy top of Mt. Rendezvous...

And all the while enjoyed the general splendor of this paradise:

That's Jackson Hole for you.

To round out our stay, we threw in a good ole' Wyoming rodeo,

a rafting trip down The Snake,

Some downtown fun,

and spent an afternoon frolicking in pristine Jenny Lake.

The water was FR.EEEEE.ZING.  A bit too frigid for a dip, but we had fun wading and looking for rocks (a favorite with the kids.)

You can't tell here, but we were all balancing on rocks out in the water.  We were certain we looked like we were walking on water.  ;)

Uh, nope.

Miri was searching for a heart-shaped rock, and suddenly realized she was sitting right on top of one!

A giant one!

Clearly, my children take the rock hunting very seriously...

Feet!  The water felt so good between our toes.

Luke's trapping:

Jenny Lake is such a beautiful spot.  It's nestled just below The Tetons and as clean and crystalline as mountain water comes.  I could've stayed all day.

You can bet we'll be back.  Again and again and again.
